SATURDAY AUGUST 24th: Mayor Castor Hosts ‘Bridges to Business’ Vendor Certification Tour
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor is taking steps to make doing business with the city more convenient for local business owners. For the second time, City staff from the Purchasing Department and the Minority and Small Business Development Office will take to Tampa’s neighborhoods to certify and/or register companies with the City of Tampa..
The goal of the “Bridges to Business” Vendor Certification Tour is to meet entrepreneurs in the communities where they serve in an effort to connect them with basic information that has the potential to lead to government contract work. The first stop on the tour will take place August 24, at the David Barksdale Senior Citizen Center from 9 AM to 12:00 PM
During that time frame, business owners or their representatives can learn the ins and outs of doing business with the city. Staff will be on-site to walk firms through the application process for minority, woman-owned, or small business certification. Prime contractors and non-profit organizations will also be on hand to provide information current projects.
“Our first Bridges to Business in East Tampa was a huge success and I look forward to building upon it,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “More than 100 community members came together and 30 of those business owners started the process to become certified through our diversity supplier program. It was uplifting to see so many small business owners working hand and hand with our city staff.”
The Bridges to Business Vendor Certification Tour is free and open to business owners or their representatives. Space for one-on-one certification consultations is has been maxed for this event. Attendees are strongly encouraged to register at: tampagov.net/BTBTour for future stops.
The City plans to announce dates and locations for additional Vendor Certification Tours in the near future.
