City of Tampa, HART and Redefining Refuge Launch I Am Priceless campaign to raise awareness in human trafficking

The City of Tampa today announced a partnership with the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) and Redefining Refuge to raise public awareness of human trafficking and its negative impacts across the Tampa Bay area in a new art campaign series, I am Priceless.

The new outreach campaign, created by local artist Tes One, is designed to educate the Tampa Bay community about the prevalence and dangers of human trafficking. The typographic mural will be placed on 10 HART buses and contains the statement, “I am not for sale. I am priceless,” alongside the national Human Trafficking Hotline phone number, 1-888-373-7888.

“Under my watch, we won’t be silent on the modern slavery of human trafficking. That’s why we’re partnering with HART to increase awareness,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “Human trafficking doesn’t discriminate based on the color of your skin, your gender, or your socioeconomic status. If you see someone who looks like they’re in need of help, don’t walk the other way. Ask questions. Pay attention to the people around you. All of us are part of the solution.”

According to crime data, the Tampa Bay area is ranked third nationally in the number of calls that the National Human Trafficking Task Force receives. In order to bring awareness to drivers, passengers and to those who need help, HART donated ad space toward 10 buses featuring the exterior banners, and 50 interior card slots across Hillsborough County. Redefining Refuge will also provide free training to HART bus drivers on human trafficking warning signs and what to do if they suspect suspicious activity is occurring on their route.
