Reedy Remains in Tampa, Helping Wheel Chair-Bound Residents

Bernard Reedy wasn’t exactly a shoe-in to make the Buccaneers’ 53-man roster. Tampa Bay retained just five wide receivers and had 11 for the majority of training camp. Four of them – Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Adam Humphries and Chris Godwin – were virtual locks to make the team.

But Reedy’s performance on special teams helped him land a spot on the Buccaneers’ opening day roster. That means he won’t have to go back to his day job, at least for now.

Reedy spent his offseason working for Care Ride, a company that assists with the transportation of wheel chair-bound residents. He made $11 an hour, but admitted he loved the work and the people he had the opportunity to meet.

After making the Bucs’ final roster, he detailed his makeshift workouts he would conduct in his van, using the arm rests to do dips and taking exercise breaks to ensure he was in shape for training camp.

With evacuations under way in the Tampa Bay area, Reedy decided to give his old employer a call. He has spent the past few days assisting disabled residents, particularly in St. Petersburg, escape Hurricane Irma.

As a native of St. Pete and Lakewood High School alumni, Reedy is standing behind the community as Hurricane Irma approaches. It’s unclear whether he lives in an evacuation zone himself or will remain in the Tampa Bay area through the storm.
