2017 NFL Offseason Calendar, Key Dates

January 2 – Clubs may begin renegotiating or extending contracts for players selected in the 2014 NFL Draft.

January 2 – Clubs may exercise fifth-year options for first-round picks in the 2014 NFL Draft.

January 8 – Assistant coaches currently employed by a playoff team that is on a bye may interview for head coaching positions throughout Wild Card Weekend.

January 15 – Assistant coaches currently employed by teams still alive in the playoffs may interview for head coaching positions through the Divisional round of the playoffs.

January 16 – Deadline for college underclassmen to declare for the NFL Draft.

January 21 – East-West Shrine Game

January 28 – Senior Bowl

January 29 – NFL Pro Bowl

January 29 – Assistant coaches currently employed by a Super Bowl team who have already interviewed for a head coaching position may conduct a second interview leading up to the Super Bowl.

February 5 – Super Bowl LI

February 15 – Clubs may begin designating franchise and transition tags.

February 28 to March 6 – NFL Scouting Combine

March 1 – Deadline to designate franchise and transition tags.

March 7 to 9 – From 12:00 p.m. EST on March 7 to 3:59:59 on March 9 clubs may contact and enter contract negotiations with agents of players who will be unrestricted free agents whose contracts expire by 4 p.m. on March 9.

March 9 – Free agency begins.

March 9 – 2017 trading period begins at 4 p.m.

March 26 to 29 – Annual League Meeting

April 3 – Clubs with a first-year head coach may begin offseason workouts.

April 17 – Clubs with returning head coaches may begin offseason workouts.

April 21 – Deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets.

April 27 to 29 – NFL Draft
