CLEARWATER – The Outlaws will perform Friday, Dec. 16, 8 p.m., at Capitol Theatre, 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater.

The third annual Green Grass & Yule Tide Jam will feature performances by southern country rock legends The Outlaws along with the Henry Paul Band and BlackHawk. The Outlaws performed a sold-out show at the Capitol Theatre in December 2015. The band will help bring in the holiday season with favorite hits.

The Outlaws are touring in support of “Legacy Live,” a double live album released in November.

For more than 40 years, the southern rock legend has celebrated triumphs, endured tragedies and survived legal nightmares to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. It’s a band of brothers bound together by history, harmony and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by its past. But most of all, it’s about playing live, playing for their audience.

The sextet proves just how well this combination works with “Legacy Live,” its brand-new double live CD.

“I want people to hear this album and see our show and realize that The Outlaws are still there,” said founding member and frontman Henry Paul in a press release. “Our goal is to unite the fans and bring the group back into the limelight.”

“Legacy Live” consists of two CDs, full to the brim with classics such as “There Goes Another Love Song,” “Ghost Riders,” “Green Grass & High Tides Forever” and “Freeborn Man” as well as more recent material such as “It’s About Pride,” “Hidin’ Out In Tennessee” and “So Long.” A total of 20 songs, every one of which proves the gritty southern rock by The Outlaws mark 2016 as intense and passionate as it’s always been.

On stage, the band burns hotter than ever.

Formed in Tampa in 1972, The Outlaws – known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies – became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums – “The Outlaws,” “Lady In Waiting” and “Hurry Sundown” featuring such rock radio favorites as “There Goes Another Love Song,” “Green Grass & High Tides,” “Knoxville Girl” and “Freeborn Man” – would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as “The Florida Guitar Army” by their fans, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones.

Henry Paul left after the group’s third album to form The Henry Paul Band for Atlantic Records, and later the multi-Platinum country trio Blackhawk. Over the next two decades, The Outlaws would experience rampant personnel changes, tonal missteps, ill-fated reunions and bitter trademark battles. And with the tragic deaths of co-founding members Frank O’Keefe and Billy Jones in 1995, and especially songwriter/vocalist/lead guitarist Hughie Thomasson in 2007, it was feared that The Outlaws’ trail had come to an end.

Luckily, things turned out differently than expected. Along with founding members Henry Paul, Monte Yoho and Steve Grisham, the band features several of Southern Rock’s most respected veterans. Co-lead guitarist and longtime Outlaw Chris Anderson is well known for his collaborations with artists that include Dickey Betts, Lucinda Williams, Hank Williams Jr. and Skynyrd. Keyboardist/vocalist Dave Robbins is a co-founding member of Blackhawk and has written hit songs for artists that include Restless Heart, Kenny Rogers and Eric Clapton. Bassist/vocalist Randy Threet has performed with Pam Tillis, Trisha Yearwood and Blackhawk, and is familiar to TV audiences from USA Network’s ‘Nashville Star’.

“From the very beginning, our band had a heart,” Monte Yoho said. “For The Outlaws, it’s still about the music. And more than ever, it’s about live music!”

The Outlaws current lineup features Henry Paul, guitars, vocals; Monte Yoho, drums; Chris Anderson, lead guitar, vocals; Randy Threet, bass, vocals; Dave Robbins, keyboards, vocals; and Steve Grisham, lead guitar, vocals.
