Teen charged with murder in Holiday

A 14-year-old is being charged with First Degree Murder after a brutal home invasion left an 81-year-old man dead back in September.

On September 23, just after 2:00 a.m., 14-year-old Alexander Perez, walked up to the elderly victim — Robert Walker — who was sitting on his front porch at his home on Devonshire Dr. in Holiday. Perez hit him in the face multiple times then pushed the victim into his house through the front door. The teen then went into Walker’s bedroom where he continued to batter him. Before fleeing the scene on foot, he stole Walker’s wallet and pants.

Perez was taken into custody later that day and has remained in custody since then. He was charged with Home Invasion Robbery of Walker. At the time, Walker sustained injuries and was treated on scene by Fire Rescue before dying later that day.

This was not a random act. Perez knew the victim.

“He [Perez] lived maybe a quarter mile away. He was friends with another juvenile across the street so the victim, Robert Walker, was familiar with the suspect, Alex Perez,”  said David Dacey with Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Perez was charged as an adult.

Pasco Sheriff’s Office detectives have been working closely with the Medical Examiners Office and on December 9, charged Perez with First Degree Murder of Walker’s death.

The Medical Examiner has ruled Robert Walker’s death a homicide due to blunt force trauma.

Detectives say Perez identified another person as being involved. They interviewed them but no arrest has been made and that’s still under investigation.
